2002 Tax Act
|
What to do if you have already filed your 2001 return.
If you have already filed your 2001 federal tax return, don't panic. If you qualify, you can still get the benefit of one of the tax breaks by filing an amended return.
While CompleteTax does not currently support the on-line preparation of an amended return, we provide a downloadable Form 1040X and instructions for your use. For additional information you can reference our Tools & Resources about amended returns.
If you wish to use our program to assist you:
- Print a copy of the return you have already filed before making any changes.
- Enter the new data and recalculate your return (at no additional charge).
- Print a copy of the recalculated return.
- Download and print Form 1040X.
- Fill in the Form 1040X by hand using the numbers from both the original and new returns.
- Mail your amended return (Form 1040X) to the IRS.
Note: Since you have already successfully e-filed your original return you cannot e-file it again! You must fill out and mail the amended return on Form 1040X.
