Electronic Filing Deadlines |
|
October 15 Deadline The deadline for initially submitting your electronic return is October 15. The IRS stops accepting new e-filed returns at midnight. Only those taxpayers who filed Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, will be considered to have filed on time. Others may still e-file, but late filing penalties may apply. |
October 20 Deadline If the IRS rejected a return that you e-filed by the October 15 deadline, don't worry. Taxpayers who attempted to e-file by the deadline may still make changes and resubmit the return through 9:00 AM (EDT) on October 20. Don't wait until the last second, however! We cannot resubmit any returns after October 20 at 9:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time. |
