IRS EXPERIENCING PROCESSING DELAYS

According to a memo from the IRS, they are experiencing delays in processing federal refund checks.

Per the IRS, some taxpayers will see an approximate one week delay in receiving their federal refund check. The IRS says that the delay is due to the need for some additional system validation checks that need to be performed and "fine-tuning" of their processing system.

While the IRS apologized for the delay they also reminded taxpayers that refund time frames provided are projected time frames only, and are subject to revision. They go on to say that taxpayers could see their refunds in as few as 10 days and 90 percent of refunds are provided within 21 days. And some people are receiving their refunds much faster.

The IRS also said that it is increasing scrutiny of tax returns for any sign of fraud. This means that some tax refunds will face extra screening and review before a check is released; this too will add some time before the refund check is delivered.

You can read the entire press release on the IRS website. To check the status of your refund you can log into your CompleteTax account, or check directly with the IRS using their "Where's My Refund" online application.

If things change or we learn more about IRS refund check processing delays we will post the information here so please check back with us.
